The Guns - Cleveland Hardcore Classic!

THE GUNS
The Guns started out as a teenage thrash duo. These kids were a phenomenon to behold. I think Scott Eakin was 14 and Dave Araca was 15, or maybe the other way around. But when they played it was just pure power. Their song "I'm Not Right" is a hardcore hit that should have been. Every bit as intense yet catchy as "Institionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies or Black Flag's "Rise Above." It's the soundtrack to the trailer of the movie. The band expanded and started playing a more metal sound which won them a lot of fans. Dave Araca passed away and that looked like the end for The Guns. But Scott reformed the group for the December show and put on a smokin' performance.

The Guns
This barely teenage hardcore duo (the band members were 13 years old), formed in 1981 while playing as the rhythm section in The Dark. Scott Eakin, bassist in The Dark, moved to vocals/guitar while Dave Araca remained on drums. After adding ex-Starvation Army drummer Sean Salay on bass, the Guns became a more coherent metallic hardcore group. They then added guitarist Scott Silverman, and proceeded as a four-piece until breaking up in '86. At varying points, all members except Salay went on to play in False Hope. The only recorded output by the band posthumously appeared as (unauthorized) "hidden tracks" on an LP by the Integrity-offshoot Bowel ('94). Sounds confusing? It is.

http://www.hardcoreshowflyers.com/?tag=cleveland-oh

was an 80’s Hardcore Punk band from Cleveland, Ohio. They started in 1982 as a way for two kids to work off their excess sugar buzz. Scott Eakin (age 12) and David Araca (age 13), of the band The Dark, formed their own side project, The Guns. They played at parties and a few shows. In ‘83 they recorded a demo and contributed 2 songs to “The New Hope”, a compilation of NE Ohio punk/hardcore bands, released by Scott’s older brother and singer for The Dark, Tom Eakin (aka Tommy Dark). The two songs led off the album and had an incredible reaction. In late 1983, Sean Saleyquit the drum chair in Starvation Army and joined The Guns as bass player. They played a ton of shows at The Pop Shop, The Lakefront, and other holes during late ‘83 and most of ‘84. The Guns recorded an album produced by Scott Lasch in ‘84 which, other than a song contributed to the “They Pelted Us With Rocks And Garbage” compilation released by Negative Print fanzine, was shelved. In late ‘84, Sean moved away from Cleveland and eventually to Washington DC to play drums for the band Government Issue. The Guns carried on with Scott Silverman on lead guitar and Bob Ries on bass through 1987. Scott Eakin went on to be in many other bands. David Araca had much success in the band False Hope. As of 2000, Scott and his brother Tom are in the Cleveland band Stepsister.

Bloody Labels

Dizee Rascal not only sampled this song but ripped itc completely probabaly at the behest of his label: Captain Sensible from The Damned doing 'Happy Times' '82. a perenial of JP's, yea I have a hardon, sue me and I mean to do a proper tribute, it's all good music to me.

JP musta known this was gonna happen and hoped we would keep them honest or destroy them in the process while we worked together in some form or another.

They ripped off Alison Moyet(X Yazoo, ala X Depeche Mode) one of the best voices of our generation and Robyn too who's a rip anyway I mean for frigs right.

Muso's will survive and we need to get together to make good stuff happen that challenges ourselves instead of being so cynical of each other.

And this is Orange Juice featuring Edwun Collins(its called Wiki) with a song called 'Rip It Up' the nz paper version was edited by Murray Cammick back in the day and was free, did he start it can't remember probably before it was shit and expensive in this so called 'neon age', more like foetal takeaway electrobrainwave age we can't come up with anything original at all, 'we're soo rebellious!',
'eveythings been done!' 'we don't care!' 'it doesn't matter' 'give us stuff!', oh no they're modern day grandma babies, they need attacking!!!!!!!! wake the fuck up!!!!!!!!!!! slap

Just so y know I haven't gone 'soft' onya!
