Kraut was a New York band who started playing in 1981. Their very first performance was opening for the Clash at Bonds in NYC (Summer 1981) Members Include: Davey Gunner, Vocals, Doug Holland, Guitar/Vocals, Don Cowan,Bass/Vocals, and Johnny Feedback, Drums/Vocals & Ryk Oakley, Producer. While recording their 1st album, they opened up for The Professionals at the Channel Nightclub in Boston. Steve Jones(EX-Sex Pistol) and Kraut became good friends and recorded extra guitar tracks on "An Adjustment to Society' album..Steve was included on Kill for Cash, Sell Out and Onward. The video for "All Twisted" from that album appeared in rotation on MTV, the first independent band to be included in the MTV roster. The band went on to release "Whetting the Scythe" and toured the USA. Their early sound was New York Hardcore / Thrash. By the mid-80's, Kraut had become a Hard Rock/Metal band (á la later period SSD or similar Boston bands). Christopher Smith from Battalion of Saints joined the band and recorded with the band. He appears on some tracks with Doug Holland on later releases. They appeared on several compilations and also put out some of their own releases. They were also the first New York Hardcore band to appear on television. Their guitar player, Doug Holland went on to play for New York Hardcore band Cro-Mags.

What Am I

'What am I in the eyes of most people – a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person – somebody who has no position in society and never will have, in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then – even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart.'

Letter from Vincent Van Gogh to his brother, 21 July, 1882.

WARHORSE - Black Acid Prophecy, Heavy Shit

In 1970, ex-DEEP PURPLE bassist Nick Simper formed WARHORSE, a keyboard-heavy Yes-esque prog rock outfit.

This is not that WARHORSE.

This is, for my money, the heaviest fucking album ever recorded.

Hailing from Worcester, Mass, WARHORSE released this slab of doomsday goodness in 2001, prompting AllMusicGuide to annoint the band "...as serious a challenge to Electric Wizard as the US has managed to produce". Much like the highly-regarded WIZARD, there is a lot more to WARHORSE than snail-paced tempos and sheer heaviness. Let's be frank - there is a lot of shitty doom metal out there. In order to keep things interesting, a certain degree of experimentation, as well as an understanding of musical dynamics, is essential. As Heaven Turns to Ash... gets it right, second, in my opinion, only to EW's Dopethrone. The instrumental interludes dispersed throughout the album serve as much-needed relief from the onslaught of bottom-heavy riffs...and they probably saved a life or two over the past six years. Bottom line: this is not for amateurs, but it's a genre-defining release.

NOTE: I believe this album is now officially out of print. It's no longer listed on the Southern Lord site, and is either N/A or backordered on every retail site I checked. I would assume that Southern Lord would eventually reissue this release, as its notoriety and appeal seem to have broadened over the last six years. Keep an eye out.

SB: They turn out about 20,000 peeps trained in audio/video media each year for 4,000 jobs max… loads of geeks turning out average CDs, flooding the market with mediocrity -- by virtue. I think all that crap about computers giving music back to the people is 99% crap, music made by democracy is rarely merit-worthy. Put a little tension, competition etc and shit really happens. I'd rather be in a band with good sympathetic musicians than good sympathetic friends -- sure a mix is ideal, but given the choice…

Country Joe and The Fish, dece orig pysch

Death Sound Blues

About The Band: The group's name is derived from leftist politics; "Country Joe" was a popular name for Joseph Stalin in the 1940s, while "the fish" refers to Mao Tse Dung's statement that the true revolutionary must "swim among the people as a fish." The group began with the nucleus of "Country Joe" McDonald (lead vocals) and Barry "The Fish" Melton (lead guitar), recording and performing for the "Teach-In" protests against the Vietnam War in 1965. Co-founders McDonald and Melton added musicians as needed over the life of the band. By 1967, the group included Gary "Chicken" Hirsh (drums) (born in 1940, in Chicago, Illinois); David Cohen (keyboards) (born 8 April 1942, in Brooklyn, New York) and Bruce Barthol (bass) (born 11 November 1947 in Berkeley, California). The 1967 lineup lasted only two years, and by the 1969 music festival Woodstock, the lineup included Greg 'Duke' Dewey (drums), Mark Kapner (keyboards) and Doug Metzler (bass).

The band came to perform an early example of psychedelic music. The LP "Electric Music for the Mind and Body" was very influential on early FM Radio in 1967. Long sets of psychedelic tunes like "Section 43", "Bass Strings", "Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine", "Janis" (for and about Janis Joplin) and "Grace" (for singer Grace Slick) (all released on Vanguard Records) were often played back to back on KSAN and KMPX in San Francisco and progressive rock stations around the country. Their first album charted at #39 on September 23, 1967, their 2nd album at #67 on February 3, 1968, and their third at #23 on August 31, 1968. Country Joe and The Fish were regulars at Fillmore West and East and Chet Helms' Avalon Ballroom. They were billed with such groups as Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Led Zeppelin, and Iron Butterfly. They played at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. In 1971 the band appeared in a Western film starring Don Johnson as an outlaw gang called the Crackers. The film, entitled Zachariah, was written by the Firesign Theatre and was billed as "The First Electric Western". They also appeared in the George Lucas film More American Graffiti and in the 1971 Roger Corman film Gas-s-s-s.

Electric Music For The Mind And Body, Country Joe and The Fish's debut album, was one of the first psychedelic albums to come out of San Francisco in 1967. Many timed their acid trips to peak during Country Joe and The Fish performances at The Avalon or The Fillmore, where they were frequent performers.

Tracks from the LP, especially "Section 43", "Grace", and "Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine" were played on progressive FM rock stations like KSAN and KMPX in San Francisco, often back-to-back. A famous version of the song "Love" was performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival

Lyrics: I hear that death sound, baby,
Oh, like an echo in my brain.
I hear that death sound, baby,
Oh, like an echo in my brain, brain.
Well, there's a part of us dying,
You know that things will never be the same,
Ah, never be the same!
I feel the black nails a-poundin' now,
Yes, into the coffin of our love.
Hear the black nails a-poundin' now,
Yes, into the coffin of our love.
Well, like a black shrouded hunter now,
Don't you know that I have killed a snow white dove,
Oh, I've killed the dove.

Well, the time sands keep a-fallin' now
On towards our ending day.
Yeah, the time sands keep a-fallin'
Towards our ending day.
I see the minutes chasing the hours,
Yes, to the words that we should say,
Ah — we should say.

Do not make things black and white from this time, as war is a whole lot of grey. Christianity was rampant and do not let the idea that they had religious affiliation through child rearing or otherwise mean they weren't anti church or anti god for very good reason i might add and not just for personal punishmant reasons. Do not follow their lead, create your own, that's the point. Explore the thoughts if they are similar to yours already through experiance or you naturally feel and makes sense in regards to your surroundings and experiance and instinct(er to be human and all that makes if anything). The word anarchy created in this part of the world is not a byword for total destruction either but total freedom and even that meant different things in diferant times, actually look up anarchist sites to get to the base of what it actually means etc etc sorry Do Not is a byword for Please or I advise or I believe perhaps...

Curtis Knight and The Squires (with hendrix) - hornets nest

Rocks!

Jimi stands out like dogs bollix as he did but took alot of his vocal stylings from this man and got his first kicks in this band of a few, also played with legendary Isley Brothers who continue to record currently who also feature on this blog elsewhere from classic! way back but Curtis also tryed to rip him off as it were contractually and Curtis Knight moved to England when Jimi did to capitalise on his career, just showing he was a wise man in the cutthroat, specially being a black musician from a country with essentially no social welfare system(usa da)as the record industry often paid them nothing at all and took all profits like loan sharks for 'services rendered'. Curtis also gave the first chops to a member of Motorhead so wot a skool it was, recognise and bow to Jimi.

Dylan Thomas

DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

In the February, 2005 issue of AMP magazine, in an article titled, "7 Seconds: 25 Years of Our Core," Kevin Seconds explained how the band's name originated: "We were big fans of The Dils, they had this EP, 198 Seconds of The Dils and I was so in love with punk rock that I would just write album titles on my clothes. This was still when Steve and I lived with my mom. We had this desk in this room we shared and I wrote '197 seconds of The Dils', I miswrote the title. Over time, everything else faded, but the 7 Seconds part was there, and I circled it, I thought it looked cool." http://7seconds.com 7
