Do not make things black and white from this time, as war is a whole lot of grey. Christianity was rampant and do not let the idea that they had religious affiliation through child rearing or otherwise mean they weren't anti church or anti god for very good reason i might add and not just for personal punishmant reasons. Do not follow their lead, create your own, that's the point. Explore the thoughts if they are similar to yours already through experiance or you naturally feel and makes sense in regards to your surroundings and experiance and instinct(er to be human and all that makes if anything).
